Youth Parliament

The Problem

Political Disengagement among youth.

The Solution

he Western Australian YMCA Youth Parliament (YP) provides young people with opportunities to develop their personal skills and learn about the political process in a forum like no other.

Youth Parliament places young people in the roles of Youth Members of Parliament, guiding them to work with peers and their communities to develop a piece of Youth Legislation. This legislation is then debated by the Youth Parliament at the Western Australian Parliament House during a residential camp held in the July school holidays each year.

The Youth Parliament program is developed and run across Australia by the YMCA. The WA YP is facilitated by YMCA Perth, with assistance from the Western Australian Government and Wesfarmers Inc. Participants are educated about the political process and provided with the resources necessary to take an active role in their communities, and to contribute to the views of their electorate at a State level.
